I use the brilliant JQuery plugin MapHilight to create excellent hover over effects for my county and state maps of the world. It has revitalized interest in using such a technique to present clickable maps at your website or blog.

Admittedly to create a great hover over effect requires attention to detail as far as plotting coordinates goes but it’s worth the effort as you can see in my demo of a clickable map of the Germany.
